New works ????

Well it IS the new year..

Mud Colony is UP and going today ,every Thursday, a bunch of us show you inside our studio's and show you what we are doing today..this is what im working on ....look HERE to see what everyone else is up to, or if you have a blog or a Facebook page , join in !!And the blog that inspired me to begin Mud Colony is Our Creative Spaces, lots of busy creative people ,making and blogging !!
Inside my head, with all the other rubbish clogging it up , has been  a kernel of a new design .
This image of Midwinter Pottery started it off in my gorgeous copy of 'The Pot Book'by Edmund De Waal

That idea has had to fight to be seen(amongst the shopping lists and books to read lists) ,and it has .
then once i started with the underglazes, it kind of morphed...

These are little pinched dishes, using Clayworks midfire SWE,which i will fire to 1200c, Im very pleased with them, and always really like the underside as well, showing all the pinchy pinchy fingermarks..so you can see its handmade..not slipcast
They also have a kind of fusion I suppose .,50's bright  design  and linework and a bit like  the Indigenous bark bowls, the way they sit comfortably in your hand, but these are much smaller !!
And another thing...I have posted this link before , but was reminded of it today.
 .........check it out HERE...
All about how to price your work correctly if you are a small business creative person...good thing to look at, at this end of the year.
The clever gals at Ink & Spindle posted this in September last year (2011 in case you have forgotten !)

And here's something interesting...this blog is about to tick over to ten thousand views , 100 to go!
Ive been blogging since around 2009,and the views have increased rapidly in the last 12 months-SO ,if you have been reading all this for a while THANK YOU,and if you have just looked today for the first time, WELCOME...I really just tip my little brain out on the page , fish around, find something clay related..and chat to you, hope you enjoy it and find it useful occasionally!!

Hope your day is a good one,and that we ALL get a good day in the studio..undisturbed!!
Cheers

Australian Ceramics Triennale

Its coming ....28th September-1st October 2012........
A quote from the Australian Ceramics Triennale  website  ..

"The theme for this conference is ‘Subversive Clay’ and over four days it will explore clay as a medium capable of challenging artistic, social and cultural issues through an investigation across past traditions and invigorating new experimentations.

Representing excellence in contemporary clay practice from around the world, the conference will consider how ceramic artists contest traditional approaches to clay as a medium, as an important art form, and thus its role in society."

Clare Twomey from the UK will be one of the keynote speakers..
have you seen her installations? She certainly challenges and pushes the boundarys of what clay will do....have a look at her installation at the V&A Museum a few years ago 'Trophy' ...

There is also the blog for the Triennale .

The other exciting event is the Australian Ceramics Association members Exhibition(held in Adelaide) , celebrating 50 years of The Journal of Australian Ceramics...
HERE are all the details ...........
So there plenty of time to consider and plan your entry and attending the Triennale in South Australia.

Brr, now its cold in Melbourne , very welcome after all that heat....back to the studio

Cheers

as part of their wonderful Holiday Programme .Here's a few snaps of the amazing facilities..........

the Ceramics Victoria Office is also at the centre, which is quite handy...
The Pottery Expo is beyond creeping up on me it is now STOMPING  around in my head.....!!
Im beginning to think of whose work i would really like to bring home this time ....its one of the first things I do after  i have set up my display..mooch around ,have a chat and a snoop...I suspect Im not the only one !
the next few weeks i will feature a few of the participating artists.....
Here's a two to begin with  ...Eve Close has a great Facebook page, and Zac Chalmer's website is a beauty!! Make a cup of hot beverage ,or a chilled one..and have a look/see..and maybe you can plan to make a purchase and support a local artist?
SO, back to the studio..the people at Mud Colony  are in their studio's Im sure ....Im planning to throw ..REALLY !! And the enormous community that is Our Creative Spaces have all sorts of beautiful
work to share with you as well.....
what are you doing today ?

Delft...lft lft

Never quite sure how to spell it..the beautiful Dutch blue & white ware...sigh.
I have JUST now received via the postie, my order from Harriet Damave in Amsterdam.
I found her on Etsy, while snooping around after putting my store together..

Have a look at this.......
My beautiful leaping  rabbit brooch, in the most adorable presentation i have seen !
Harriet does it so well, from the complimentory greeting cards,to the personal note..to the fluffy pure cotton to protect her work..and last but not least ..the little blue ribbon !

I swear I spent over an hour trying to decide which one to purchase...I am truly in love.

I am now REALLY  looking forward to doing Vipoo Srivilasa's Blue and White painting workshop in March even MORE so !!

Hope the sun is shining on you all today, beautiful summers day in Melbourne
Cheers

Im so very excited !! Thanks to Tess McCabe and her AMAZING community...
hope it reads ok ? Let me know what YOU think...

ANYWAY !!! Back to work !!!...........remember I made a bazillion tiles a few weeks ago?
Haven't had the time to decorate them, was whisked away to the Victorian Alps for a few days to enjoy floating in Lake Catani ,wiggling my toes in beautiful rivers, sleeeeeping in  a glorious comfy bed..and eating...and eating...swear i ate my bodyweight in EVERYTHING !
Thanks to the lovely Kate for a fab holiday !!
I HAVE decorated SOME of the tiles..see?

Cobalt and red underglaze...half of the tiles are the teeney tiny ones...hmm, about 8-10cm ? I really love
these and am looking forward to firing them ,they are so weeney they fit in the palm of my hand.

I have been dreaming about a new range of work that Im hoping to have ready for the Pottery Expo at Warrandyte 25th & 26th Feb...more bright colours..squared off beakers and bowls..kind of Danish inspired..anyhoo, have a look at what other potters are thinking about, and possibly DOING in their studio at
MUD COLONY
Maybe you could join in ? Doesn't have to be every week, doesn't have to be an essay!
Just a line and an image showing us the happenings in your space ...
I was inspired to begin Mud Colony as Im part of another blog called Our Creative Spaces...
its quite amazing and well loved...check it out
See you
Adriana :)
