Something I start to think about around this time of year.
Its getting closer to Christmas and for us lucky dudes in the Southern Hemisphere, also SUMMER,which then all collides with the end of the working year, and the beginning of the long summer break for those lucky enough. ... all being squeezed down this little tube of busyness !! Gah!
ANYWAY , I do start to think about where my work is headed, what will I keep making, and what will I NEVER make again ?? Im never very clear on what it is exactly that I want ..seems clearer what Im pretty sure I DONT want ! Im not mad on making anything that loses my love..its like this......
Im sitting throwing on the wheel thinking how beautiful this piece will be when its finished, whether or not it will have banding,be a lustre piece or an every day piece dum de dum de dum..on it goes....then comes the loveless ..ugh, HOW many of these am I making? Am I finished?..ooh look , the raspberries are ripe might just go nibble a few...get it?
Is that how it is with you?
So, i do feel like Im 'nutting it out ' a bit more lately, and really enjoying my time in the studio and developing two more distinct ranges, but funnily enough if I get bored with that, it may just all change !!
So TODAY in my studio , I will be re-assessing-doing a bit of a stock take..and then I'd say warming up with a board of beakers ,then some nice big fat bowls..Im thinking red w lustre banding design...
What about YOU? What are you up to in your studio today? Check out what a bunch of people are doing in their studios today at my little community blog Mud Colony ,maybe join in ?
And then there is all the OurCreative Spaces people, beavering away-should see all the stuff they make....might have a bit more time by the river and the camp site to tinker on textile type projects!!
thanks for tuning in...
Cheers

Just exquisite, lovely
ReplyDeleteThat's one gorgeous bowl. I really love the eye being duplicated by the swirl above it. I've just got my sewjo back so bags it is again. But this time it is about me and not filling orders for other people's styles. It's like having a sewing holiday and releasing all the pent up creativity. Cherrie
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nice images - beach, studio, bowl, all. I also like your throwing chair. Best seat I've seen for throwing was a custom made stool of Sandy Lockwood's. Based on a large office chair with padded seat, slight forward angle and no back on it - so comfortable!
ReplyDeletethanks !! Sewjo..well said Cherrie!! so i must get my potjo back?Clayjo? nup, doesnt translate.yes Im looking forward to just having a tinker over the Christmas break as well !! Anna my throwing chair is a wooden chair from my fathers garage, I remember it growing up,it is paint splattered and just that wee bit wobbly..I do have a cushion to sit on, but i flung it to the dog one day, she comes to watch me throw..likes company !
ReplyDeleteGreat color on the bowl almost a coral red. I'm trying to do some serious assessing over the next few weeks. I never know if I will go back to past work, sometimes I say I never will and then it pops back again. Ha.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, the colour is an Australian underglaze, CESCO brand, love it its the only one I use ,as its so dense in colour. Hey thanks for joining Mud Colony!! Nice little post, well done :)
